When people think about world peace, they only exclude wars and believe that this concept finishes there. That is simply wrong. World Peace is not only a simple objective of the international community. It is a philosophy for changing the world significantly and making it a better place.

Through this philosophy, the international community has been trying to create plans and meet objectives as we move toward a more smart world.

Social scientists of our epoch have made it clear that world peace has a meaning, and it is strongly related to two other concepts:

● security

● development

The reason for that is simple. All these scientists and development experts agree that security and development are vital elements for achieving peace.

One of the best descriptions for our new millennium is the one from Toure in 2004 that defines it as:

a paradoxical time that is full of hope for peaceful coexistence between people, but also dangerous with possibilities of explosive conflicts based on the mobilisationof different identity and ideological divides.

We have witnessed the escalation of civil wars, ethnic conflicts, religious and other conflicts of various dimensions in political, economic, and socio-cultural spheres that are now threatening humanity.

Our world holds firmly in its memory the destructions and agonies of two world wars and other international or regional wars. Hence, our approach to world peace should come from the standpoint of knowledge and maturity. Therefore, the United Nations (UN)) creation is a pure act that has its origin from that standpoint.

A simple sociological perspective on peace

From a sociological standpoint, many authors agree that there would be no social conflict if society members would meet their expectations and needs. Except for that, the process should also be accompanied by the appropriate culture, norms, and values.

What about security?

Security is part of the world peace project and concept. Security implies more areas of our lives than we might think. Hence, the international community is continually trying to guarantee:

● Food Security

● Personal Security

● Political Security

● Health Security

● Environmental Security

What about development?

Development is the last concept that forms the triangle of world peace. Development refers to the use of technology in order to guarantee suitable access to education and other resources of our planet for everyone. Development and better use of technology can improve the lives of everyone despite the nation where they are living since we all live under the same sun.
